What is IPL?  
 IPL is a cosmetic skin treatment that may help reduce the signs of aging, lighten sun spots/ darker patches of skin, promotes collagen production, and improve the appearance of scars and spider veins.

IPL is used to treat the following conditions:   

  • Rosacea (redness and visible blood vessels in the face)

  • Enlarged pores (IPL can help eliminate large pores and reduce the appearance of skin acne without the need for topical products that dry out skin)

  • Acne and acne scars

  • Redness

  • Broken capillaries (also known as spider veins due to the web-like appearance)

  • Dyschromia (discoloration of the skin or nails)

  • Melasma (brown or gray patches, usually appearing on the face)

  • Brown spots

  • Freckles

  • Sunspots

  • Age spots

  • Hyperpigmentation (darker skin patches caused by an excess of melanin, the brown pigment that produces normal skin color)

  • Vascular and pigmented lesions

  • Uneven skin tone and texture

  • Fine lines and wrinkles


  • Avoid asprin, Ibuprofen, or any other type of blood thinner for at least 1 week prior to your treatment. 

  • Avoid alcohol for at least 2 days prior to your treatment. 

  • No use of Accutane (oral acne medication) within 12 months of treatment. 

  • Apply SPF 30+ daily throughout treatments.

  • 2 weeks before your appointment, discontinue any use of any topical prescriptions on the areas bring treated.

  • Discontinue use of antibiotics at least 2 weeks prior to treatment. 

  • Discontinue Retinol, or any topical with active ingredients at least 3 days prior to your appointment.


  • If edema appears after treatment, you may use a cold compress (not direct ice). A low concentration steroid ointment can also be used to reduce any swelling.

  • Do not soak in a bath tub with hot water, as this may dilate the vessels in the treatment area.

  • Avoid steam rooms, saunas, exercising, and sweating for at least 24 hours following your appointment.

  • Avoid swimming for at least 3 days following your appointment.

  • Use a sunscreen with 30+ SPF.

  • Avoid sun bathing, tanning beds, self tanners, and spray tans for at least 4 weeks following your appointment. 

  • Moisturize the treated area with Vaseline or Aquaphor at least 3 times a day for 3-4 days or until micro-crusting has sloughed off. 

  • Allow the skin to heal internally in 3-4 weeks
